Softwarepark Hagenberg is recognised regionally, nationally and internationally as a centre of excellence for research and teaching, as well as for the application of computer science technologies.
Softwarepark Hagenberg was founded by Bruno Buchberger in 1989 in a revitalised castle in Hagenberg as a branch of the Johannes Kepler University of Linz. The aim was to combine basic research with the application of scientific findings in mathematics and software development. From this initiative, the Softwarepark Hagenberg has developed into a cluster for research, education and business with a focus on software.
Shortly afterwards, the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria expanded its range of educational and research programmes with the establishment of the Hagenberg Campus. This academic foundation has laid the groundwork for a steadily growing number of companies in the Softwarepark. The institutions work closely together and are internationally recognised for their successful integration of research, business and education. To this day, this model remains the cornerstone of Hagenberg’s innovative strength and its unique selling point compared to other technology centres.
